Multiple file upload manager

Today, I would like to share my experience about multiple file upload manager, that allows you to create an unlimited amount of dropboxes that you place anywhere on your desktop.

The problem...

I recently upload files to three FTP servers simultaneously. One of them points to my website where I store online documents, another one is a mirror site, and a third FTP server is a backup. Each upload operation requires to open FTP client, find an appropriate folder, upload files, disconnect from FTP. OK, it takes only 5 minutes, but if I upload files ten times a day, it becomes quite a long time. And I would like to save this time for something more interesting.

One possible solution I found...

I actually use the dropboxes for automate files transfer. But wait... what is a Dropbox? It is a desktop icon, floating atop of the windows desktop. Each dropbox allow to configure a number of different local and remote locations that, when files are dragged and dropped onto it, will automatically upload the files in the background. So for my example: when I’m wanting to send file to multiple fto servers I no longer have to go through one by one do to so. Instead I simply drag the file I want to upload onto the drop box and that’s it.

I actually use the dropboxes for a number of different tasks to save me time and keep me organized. In addition to FTP Servers DDWidget lets me automatically send files to local and network folders, Amazon’s online storage service, and even multiple e-mail addresses all from the same place. So you can create a dropbox that with one simple motion will send the files to specified folders on your hard drive, upload them to an FTP server, back them up to you Amazon S3 account and then forward them to multiple e-mails. Just think of how much time that would take you if you had to do that manually.

Configuring these dropboxes is a very easy and painless thing as well. DDWidget includes a built-in profile manager so you don’t have to keep reentering the e-mail and FTP server information. Once it is stored you can simply select the profile for each new dropbox you create. Another feature I use is the ability to send detailed reports automatically to my email when it is finished. This way I have a backup of the logs that I can access anywhere.

This could come in real handy when you host a Web site, but don't come close to the max up and down allotments or space on the server. The remainder of the space becomes your personal dropbox.

Thanks for the article.
